Our Purpose

Our Whys

People are our purpose. We live and breathe to create a better quality of life for all, which manifests in great food and service. It stems from our workers in which fun and kind stewardship is cultivated through education, empowerment, and the force of positivity. These core values translate to the exceptional standards of service to our customers, neighborhood, and community, in which all people are treated equally and with value. We believe these practices create a culture that exudes a warm, welcoming atmosphere within our store front, and all business activity that we conduct.

Our Hows

To create the best tasting, highest quality product that we can, we use wholesome, all-natural ingredients in our from-scratch, small batch food and confections. We draw from local suppliers, as much as we can, to promote a positive, local economic impact within our community. Serving our community also means supporting local farms and suppliers.

Our Neighborhood

Making ethical decisions in regards to how our business impacts our world is a core value in which we measure success. Using renewable energy, biodegradable and compostable packaging, recycling, and composting food waste are examples of how we aim to do better for the environment. We constantly reevaluate our standard operating procedures to create less waste, and adapt better business practices to create a better place in which we live.

Our Restaurant.

It all started with the desire to create delicious, from-scratch food made from wholesome ingredients. Our team has a passion for combining unique flavors with all-natural, local, and organic ingredients that come together for an unforgettable dining experience. Our pride goes far beyond our plates, as the health and happiness of our employees is our number one priority. We live for doing business while creating a fun and welcoming environment for all people.

Our Candy.

We proudly make Donckers’ chocolates and caramels in our very own cherished, 124 year old building, nestled in our little city of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Donckers' fair trade chocolate and caramel is carefully crafted by the attentive crew, and is a benchmark of the fully-rounded Donckers experience. Cruise through our catalogs of sweets and confections, we promise you'll be in love at first bite.

Community Involvement

Triple Bottom Line

The way we conduct business is consistent with the belief that a successful and sustainable business strikes a balance between the three P’s- People, Planet, and Profit. We strive to make ethically conscious decisions that may affect our environment, workers, customers, and community. To learn more about B Corp, or the three P’s in Triple Bottom Line, let us know! We have literature on these subjects and will take time to educate you on our practices.

Environmental Mission Statement

The restaurant industry is notoriously wasteful. We wish to be a part of the solution in our industry, and to start in our community by practicing waste reduction, composting, using sustainable packaging, and using renewable energy. We live on the shores of our community's greatest natural asset, Lake Superior. There is great reverence in our community towards this lake, and we wish to protect and encourage a healthy ecological balance.

Social Commitment

People are our reason. We are in this industry because we love to serve people. Hospitality is our primary language, and creating an unforgettable experience for all people is our main priority, and a pillar on which we measure success. We serve our team members first, because if they feel supported and successful in their role, they will bring great energy to our customers and community.

Local Commitment

Donckers is committed to serving our local community. One way in which we are committed to this is through a pledge to serve at least 75% local customers.
